This morning Nintendo made a stealth announcement of the long-rumored dedicated handheld Nintendo Switch hardware revision. Nintendo’s YouTube page uploaded a 6-minute video revealing the new hardware; the Nintendo Switch Lite. The handheld sports a smaller and lighter frame than the Nintendo Switch clocking in at 3.6’’ tall, by 8.5’’ and weighting .61lbs.

The handheld screen is 5.5 inches and the directional buttons have been replaced with a traditional D-Pad. The Joy Cons are permanently built into the hardware, and the battery life is increased by roughly one hour.

As a dedicated handheld, the system does not connect to a television, and the HD Rumble and infrared motion camera have been removed. The console will only be compatible with Nintendo Switch titles that can be played in handheld mode.

The Nintendo Switch Light comes in three colors, Yellow, Gray and Turquoise, and is scheduled for release September 20th 2019 at an MSRP of 199.99. A special edition of the console featuring Zacian and Zamazenta from the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield versions is set to release on November 8th.
