RUMOR – Nintendo to Release Most of Super Mario Back Catalog on Nintendo Switch in 2020

According to VGC Nintendo has plans to release updated versions of several 3D Platforming titles in the Super Mario games on the Nintendo Switch this year to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the franchise.

The prevailing speculation is that a celebration of the 35th anniversary Super Mario was planned for E3 2020, and the announcement was planned for that event. With E3 2020 having been cancelled due to health concerns related to COVID-19, it is believed that Nintendo might hold a streaming event for the celebration.

In a report from VentureBeat it is suggested that the games Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 could be released in an collection similar to Super Mario All Stars which released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993 or as individual remasters similar to the HD remasters of games in the Legend of Zelda series. The report also suggests a deluxe version of Super Mario 3D World could be in the works as a stand alone title.

This new rumor comes on the tails of a rumor from last week that proposed that a brand new game in the Paper Mario series is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2020.

As of yet there have been no announcements from Nintendo regarding their plans for the week of E3 2020. Normally the company holds a Nitnedo Direct streaming event, followed by Treehouse Live event where Nintendo streams demos and live game play of their upcoming titles from the E3 show floor. It is expected that there will be a Nintendo Direct stream event.
