Nintendo of America has just announced that current president, Reggie Fils-Amie will be retiring in April 15th, and Doug Bowser, who is currently the senior vice president of Sales and Marketing, will be be stepping into the rule of President.
In the announcement Reggie gave the following statement:
“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever,” Fils-Aime said. “It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”
Succeeding Reggie as President will be Doug Bowser, who is currently the senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo of America. Bowser expressed gratitude towards Reggie and insured that he would faithfully carry on in the the work that Reggie laid out, saying:
“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said. “And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”
Reggie has been with Nintendo of America for 15 years, with 12 of them as President. In the time since his debut at Nintendo’s 2004 E3 Conference where he famously stated that he was about “kicking ass and taking names”, Reggie has become a much loved staple figure in the games industry. He oversaw Nintendo through the Nintendo DS to the Switch, he leaves Nintendo having built a strong legacy within the company, and within the industry as a whole.
